To the South of Kantara

A 20 minute drive down the mountainside to the south brings you out to the Famagusta road. Turning left here brings you into Bogaz, a charming fishing village, with a beach and variety of cafes and restaurants. If you turn right, you will see the "Exotic Hotel" immediately on your right hand side, which has a swimming pool and mini aqua park available for the use of non-residents. About a hundred yards further on you will find the local "Lemar" supermarket (open 7 days a week).

Continuing past Lemar for a few minutes, you will find "Moon Over The Water" on your left hand side. This English run Restaurant and pub serves exceptional food and has a lovely friendly atmosphere. They also provide a lending library service (books and DVDs)

Famagusta is a further 20 minutes or so, and has all the shops, banks and amenities you would expect to find in a large town. It is also home to the oldest living thing in Northern Cyprus - the fig tree outside Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque (St Nicholas Cathedral), which is believed to be over 700 years old.

To the East of Kantara

By the coast road to the south of Kantara you can easily get to the Karpaz National Park, and the picturesque beaches toward the point of the peninsula.

At the far end of the island is St Andreas Monastery which pilgrims from all over the world come for its healing waters.

Although this area is not far, allow plenty of time, as you will feel the need to stop and soak up the breathtaking views at regular intervals!

To the North of Kantara

Another stunning 20 minute drive down the mountain to the north will bring you to Kaplica with its often deserted, long and sandy stretch of beach.

To the east side of the beach you will find rock pools and some uniquely beautiful rock formations. All this, and a beach bar/restaurant, serving traditional Turkish Cypriot and European snacks, meals and drinks.
